Voices in Melody
Voices in Melody: From Divine Imagery to Andalusian Dreams is a captivating solo project led by saxophonist Neus Mínguez Nicolau. Drawing from her diverse experiences and deep cultural roots, this concert series offers a unique blend of music, poetry, and tradition. Through her saxophones, Neus explores a repertoire that spans centuries, blending sacred medieval melodies, Andalusian rhythms, and contemporary avant-garde elements.
The program features a contemplative performance of Hildegard von Bingen’s O quam mirabilis est, evoking divine mystery through ethereal lines, followed by María Ramos’ Raíces árabes, a tribute to Andalusian heritage fused with flamenco nuances. Neus also performs a graceful rendition of Bach’s Sarabande from Partita in A minor BWV 1013, juxtaposed with the modernity of JacobTV’s Garden of Love, which integrates spoken word, electronic sounds, and nature’s echoes to reflect on societal themes.
A highlight of the concert is Neus’ improvisation on the theme of Nana by Manuel de Falla, enveloping audiences in the warmth of a Spanish lullaby, as well as Guadiana by María Ramos—a piece inspired by Andalusian folklore, echoing traditional rhythms and evocative imagery. Through “Voices in Melody,” Neus offers an immersive experience where the past meets present, invoking rich narratives through a tapestry of melodic and rhythmic traditions.
