MusicaLorca

Onits new project ‘MusicaLorca’, Soneto duo takes as a starting point an original piece called Homenatge a Lorca (Homage to Lorca) originally for saxophone and piano by the Spanish composer Joan Albert Amargós. This piece is based on three Spanish popular songs (Los cuatro muleros, Anda jaleo and Zorongo) that Lorca himself harmonized for voice and piano. Neus and Apollon took as a reference the original recordings of the CD Canciones populares españolas (Spanish popular songs) by Lorca and La Argentinita, famous flamenco dancer and singer, and they perform the songs incorporating “taconeo flamenco”.
Other key parts in this project are the musical improvisations on Lorca’s poems as well as the connection that they discovered between Lorca and Greek poetry and music. This crossover led them to make arrangements of Greek music inspired by Lorca’s literature and to newly composed pieces by Apollon.
MusicaLorca’s main aim is to highlight not only Federico García Lorca’s worldwide known poetry but also his musical heritage.
